Actor Michael B. Jordan is looking to provide a platform for historically Black colleges and universities. Jordan has announced that he will be hosting the Hoop Dreams Classic next December. The one-day doubleheader will feature four teams from across the country.
“This past year has been the tipping point for so many, including myself, in revving up support for Black people,” Jordan said.
“As a Newark native, I am committed to bringing change to the community and am honored to be able to present The Hoop Dreams Classic as a way to celebrate the value of community, education, and Black college experiences. Through our shared love of basketball, I look forward to bringing the communal spirit of HBCUs to the city that helped shape me into the man I am today.”
Making the event even more special, it will take place in Michael B. Jordan’s hometown of Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center. Over the years, the city has produced hardwood legends like Randy Foye of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kenneth Faried of the Denver Nuggets and of course, Shaquille O’Neal.
The first-ever Hoop Dreams Classic is set for December 18, 2021. More information to come in 2021.
