It’s about that time. The world is approximately one week away from seeing Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut, Creed III.
The story of the latest Creed film will bring together two former friends, Adonis Creed and Dame Anderson. Played by Jordan and Majors, the two men were once friends, but a tragic incident separated them in ways they could have never imagined. Years later, they meet again, but it is apparent that their relationship may not be what it once was.
Leading this emotionally jam-packed story, the Newark, New Jersey native was tasked with shooting the film’s most intense fight scenes. While spending time with the good folks at IGN, the first-time director explained that Anime inspired how he shot many of the film’s fight scenes.
“Without nerding out too much,” he began.
“You’ve seen so many fights throughout the Rocky and Creed franchise, and I really wanted to put my spin on it, you know? How to make these fights different, and you know, from Hajime no Ippo, to Megalo Box, to Naruto, to My Hero Academia, all of those different anime that I watched growing up, there’s an inherent spirit to them in how they fight.”
Thus far, Jordan has won over the approval of his co-stars like Tessa Thompson and Jonathan Majors.
“Mike has done such an incredible job directing this film. He has the spirit to bring a group of people together,” Thompson said about Jordan’s directorial debut.
“He’s incredibly disciplined. Getting to see him approach the work in almost an athletic way was just an honor to get to watch.”
The world will have an opportunity to see Creed III on March 3, 2023.
