When Pat Chambers resigned shortly before the season it was interesting to see what Penn State would do to replace him. They hired an interim and shortly after the season ended the Nittany Lions went out and found their man by hiring Micah Shrewsberry. Shrewsberry has spent the last two years working under Matt Painter as his associate head coach. Before that Shrewsberry was an assistant under Brad Stevens with the Celtics, a position he enjoyed for six years.
During his time as a Celtics coach, he was the person given a lot of credit for his work with Boston’s two star wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Those two wings have blossomed especially so this season but have both mentioned the important role Shrewsberry played in their developments. Since returning to the college game, Shrewsberry has been put in charge of Purdue’s offense which was top 25 in offensive efficiency this season.
Micah Shrewsberry’s best recruiting pitch:

Shrewsberry has an interesting task at hand as Penn State has struggled as a program over the years consistently. The good news for Shrewsberry is staying within the Big 10 should be helpful and coaching at Butler in the midwest helps him in terms of knowing the lay of the land. At the same time with Penn State as a football school, expectations shouldn’t be high. Chambers was given ample opportunity to get things going and never could before abuse allegations ultimately took him down. Shrewsberry already has a great recruiting pitch to get things going with his past work with Tatum and Brown. Should be interesting to see how quickly he gets things going if at all at Penn State.
