The 2016 NBA Draft looks to be a very balanced one. Want a high school God who basically coasted thro the education side of College? Ben Simmons. Want a senior? We got those. Think the Knicks got “F’n lucky” with Kristaps Porzingis and want a European big of your own? This Draft has several of them.
For whatever type of player you want, the 2016 NBA Draft has it. Which makes it no surprise that the Miami Heat want a piece of the Draft Pie. They do not have a pick this year, but with some Heat personnel scouting the College ranks recently, it’s clear that the Heat are preparing to get a pick or two.
“You prepare for the draft regardless of whether or not you have a pick, or where your pick is,” General Manager Andy Elisburg said. “You’re never sure whether the opportunities may come to you before the draft or during the draft, and so you have to scout and prepare as if you’re potentially anywhere.”
“So you never know when the opportunities may present themselves to you,” Elisburg said, “so I think you prepare accordingly.”
“We’ve drafted some players we didn’t have workouts for or didn’t come in for interviews,” Elisburg said, “including last year Justise Winslow. Caron Butler, also, in the past.“
Elisburg also said in the article that the worst thing to do is not prepare.
You forget that good front offices think about every possible outcome. I’m thinking something Hassan Whiteside based. I don’t want him to leave and we get nothing. It’s heartbreaking enough watching him be a boss with full knowledge that he might not be in a Miami Heat uniform next year.
