The NBA All-Star Weekend is one of the most fun weekends in sports. 3 days of enjoyable basketball games all topped off with an All-Star Game that makes the old people cringe because of the extreme lack of defence.
This past season it was hosted by Toronto and besides the stupid cold weather I think it was a success. Next year the All-Star festivities head to Charlotte which admittedly has been in the air because of some politics in the state of North Carolina but hopefully that will go along.
Every year we get a new city that put their bid in for a future NBA All-Star Weekend and this year it is looking like an ASW will head to South Beach, home of the Miami Heat. Eric Woolworth, Miami Heat group President of Business Ops with the first quote.
“The NBA has made it clear to us that they would like to try figure out how to come to Miami,” he said, after appearing at Wednesday’s community event alongside Alonzo Mourning and Josh Richardson. “And so, we have put some feelers out to the people around town, to see what can be done. And so I would say we’re at the very preliminary stages of trying to figure something out.”
Beyond the 2017 plans for Charlotte, the NBA only has set an All-Star commitment for 2018, with that game scheduled for Staples Center in Los Angeles. That could leave the Heat with somewhat limited upcoming options, with the 2020 Super Bowl scheduled in South Florida.
Miami have been in talks to possibly replace Charlotte amidst the aforementioned political battle regarding the LGBT community. I think Miami would be a perfect place for the NBA All-Star Weekend. It gives me incentive to travel across the pond and head to South Beach.
