There will always be drama surrounding the world’s best player. It’s just something that will always be attached to LeBron James, even when he laces up his sneakers for the last time.
Recently a story came out of Miami where the Heat’s president Pat Riley had some words for LeBron and how he left the Heat. He’s been taking subtle shots at LeBron whenever he can throughout the season. It appears now that there might be some sort of animosity from the Heat organization towards LeBron and how he chose to leave Miami. The power LeBron has to attract free agents, wherever he goes whether it was with the Miami Heat or now with the Cleveland Cavaliers seems to be a sticking point in Miami’s issue with James.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said the following on ESPN’s ‘Mike & Mike in the Morning’ radio show.
“They signed a couple of players … and then LeBron left and those were players meant to play with LeBron and they were out of position. There is a feeling in Miami that not only did he leave but there was a plan that he would do as much damage as possible.”
The Heat put all of their eggs in one basket before they could even secure LeBron to come back to play with them. They signed Josh McRoberts, Danny Granger, drafted Shabazz Napier and brought over James Ennis to try and make sure LeBron would have some more talent around him. Unfortunately for the Heat, it was a bad situation to start.
They only had Norris Cole and Napier under contract when the offseason started so they were dealing with a firestorm of issues all centralized over LeBron and they froze their moves to focus on one man. It’s understandable why one would feel that they missed out on other talent because of the tango LeBron and the Heat were in but it’s no one’s fault but Miami’s for their shortcomings in free agency.
LeBron didn’t hold you up from signing the players you wanted, you held yourself up, waiting for a guy who obviously wasn’t buying what the Heat were selling or else he wouldn’t have hesitated to come back.
