Dion Waiters was a major reason the Miami Heat came storming back from a terrible start to finish the season at 41-41. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat strongly want him back.
Though there had been some concern that Dion Waiters’ former agent, new Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, might make a big offer for Waiters this summer, Lakers executive Magic Johnson – whose team has $23 million in cap space – told reporters: “I’m really looking to keep the cap space that we have and really try to play in next year’s free agent class, and not really this free agent class.”
The Heat wants to keep Waiters but doesn’t want to overpay.
This may be a reoccurring fear for teams as Rob Pelinka is a well known super star agent in the NBA. With ties to so many players, his connections may disrupt some team’s plans. Although it appears the storm has past for the Heat and they will most likely resign the spunky guard, other teams may come a calling. Dion showed what he can do when given the role. Maybe just maybe some other team will sign up for the arms folded swagger that is Dion Waiters.
