Oh Mr World Peace. (Still sick of that stupid name by the way) For a second there, I genuinely thought that he was humbled a little while he had his stint in China. But, palm to my head, he’s still his good ol self.
We have heard news about Metta World Peace possibly coming back to Los Angeles, training in LA. Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has had his say on MWP, mentioning that he loves the guy, which in my mind is him saying “We hope to sign him soon”. And World Peace has spoken on the recent news. Giving an update on what’s going on.
USA Today reported that Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is contemplating whether to bring him back. […] “Me and Mitch have a cool relationship but we have not talked about me coming back to the Lakers,” World Peace said. “I call Mitch about other things. We just have a good relationship. Whether I come to the Lakers or not, me and Mitch would still be cool.”
“I don’t really know, honestly,” he said of what he will do this coming season with training camp approaching. “I work out. I’m still one of the best small forwards in the world but my career has been up and down. With my career being up and down, some teams are like, ‘Can we use Metta World Peace, where is he going to fit in? Is he going to be good for the rookies? Can he still play?’ I’m still one of the best small forwards in the world so that’s not a question. But the question is can I actually fit into a team and can a coach coach me? Those are realistic questions and it’s cool. I still train to be one of the best.”
World Peace said that his controversial past still plays a role on if teams want to deal with him. […] “A lot of times my agent was trying to reach out to a couple of teams, nobody was really interested,” he said. “For many reasons. Not because I’m not one of the best- I could take anyone’s spot if I really wanted to. But there are other things my career has started off with controversy. Sometimes I wasn’t great in the locker room. So there are questions I have to always answer.”
Alright that’s a lot to tackle.
Firstly, he isn’t one of the best small forwards in the game, his peak wasn’t exactly Everest high anyways. And I get that his past is a talking point, but he must have matured a little bit right? It’s not like The Malace at the Palace is going to go down again.
And maybe I was wrong about Kupchak and his relationship with MWP, maybe they do just talk and be friends? I still think they’ll put MWP on the Lakers training camp roster.
