Metta World Peace was brought on this season as a veteran presence that doubled as a familiar face amongst fans. Every time he touched the floor they erupted. Much like Kobe last year, the excitement masked the obvious tank the Lakers were undergoing while playing him. Metta didn’t play very often, though, only getting into 25 games this season usually playing in the 4th quarter.
Over the last 5 games, he got some more playing time than usual. Playing pretty well he, maybe, unfortunately, helped the Lakers win 4 of their last 5 games pushing them out of ideal lottery odds. Still, the fans loved every second he was on the court.
Now, according to Lindsey Thiry of the Los Angeles Times, Magic Johnson informed World Peace that his days as a Laker are most likely done after those last few days of glory.
“Magic [Johnson] said he’s probably not going to bring me back,”
“We talked ’bout the season and talked about everything. It wasn’t too complicated.”
At 37 years old and after 17 seasons in the NBA, Metta World Peace’s career may be over with but his long legacy will endure for years to come.
