Tim Tebow is back at it again, finding a way to stay relevant in sports discussions. Although he has not actually played in the NFL since 2012, the former Heisman winner is looking to get back into a playing role. Except this time it’s with baseball.
Tebow recently had a tryout for MLB teams and it came with a wide range of reviews from a ‘waste of time’ to ‘better than I expected’. The Tebow tryout was held a couple of weeks ago and scouts gave him a grade comparable to that of a minor league player. At 29 years old, playing in the Minor Leagues might not be what the former NFL quarterback had in mind but that’s exactly what he’s going to be doing. Tebow and the New York Mets officially agreed to a deal.
The Mets made the signing official on both their twitter and team website.

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow signed a Minor League deal with the Mets on Thursday. Tebow, 29, will participate in the club’s instructional league in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Tebow hasn’t played competitive baseball since 2005, his junior year at Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Verde, Fla., where he was a three-sport standout, also playing basketball and, of course, football.
At his recent scouting showcase, Tebow’s raw power was by far his standout baseball tool. He hit three home runs in his first round of batting practice at University of Southern California’s Dedeaux Field, including one to right-center field that soared way above the scoreboard, landing at least 400 feet from home plate on the top level of a nearby parking garage. Tebow hit two more in his second round, with one of them hitting the treetops above the scoreboard.
Tebow says his goal is to have a career in the big leagues but is it actually feasible? Only time will tell but he is a good athlete with raw powers and he appears to have a passion for it. The question now is, can the Mets mold him into the next Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders? They play the biggest part in him achieving that goal of being in the MLB.
