It can be argued that the New York Mets would not have made it to the 2015 World Series without the heroic effort from their second baseman Daniel Murphy. His 2015 regular season campaign wasn’t anything that leaped off the stat sheet but he did have a solid season in his sixth year with the organization.
Then, the playoffs came and Murph smacked homerun after homerun off some of MLB’s top pitchers like Zack Greinke, Jake Arrieta and Clayton Kershaw. In total, Murphy set a major league record with homers in six straight postseason games and earned National League Championship Series MVP honors for his efforts.
The World Series came and he cooled off but the writing was on the wall even before Murphy snapped in the postseason. The Mets weren’t going to bring him back but no one expected him to sign with their hated rivals, the Washington Nationals.
Following from ESPN.
Former New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy has agreed to a three-year deal with the Washington Nationals, a club source told ESPN’s Jim Bowden.

The Mets moved on from Murphy by bringing in an eclectic group of players in the offseason including getting Neil Walker in a trade and signing utility infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to supplement the loss of Murphy.
It’s going to be interesting to hear the crowd reaction when Murphy does return to play the Mets at Citi Field in 2016. Merry Christmas, Mets fans.
