Melvin Ingram wants a long-term contract, from the Los Angeles Chargers or somebody else. While the defensive end still has hopes to sign with his current team beyond this season, the two sides agreed to a restructured deal that keeps player and team happy, at least for the time being.
Ingram gets $14 million guaranteed this season, and the Chargers get their 31-year-old pass rusher back at practice and involved with team activities for the first time this offseason.
#Chargers DE Melvin Ingram signed an adjusted contract yesterday with the team that guaranteed this year’s salary, sources say. That was a driving force in his return to practice. We’ll see what it means regarding his push for a contract extension.

The Chargers are the only team Melvin Ingram has played for since being taken with the 18th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
In 106 career NFL games, Ingram has 350 tackles, 70 tackles for loss, 49 sacks, seven fumble recoveries, and two interceptions.
He is in the final year of a four-year, $66 million pact that he signed in 2017, after having the franchise tag placed on him by the team. He’s part of a pretty talented group of Chargers headed for free agency after this upcoming season.

Los Angeles has shifted him around the defense a bit, but he’s remained productive, whether at outside linebacker or defensive end.
There were a couple injury-plagued years for Ingram, he only played in 13 games between the 2013 and 2014 seasons. But he’s been very dependable since, missing only three games since the conclusion of the 2014 season.
