The year 2018 has been a rollercoaster ride for Philadelphia native, Meek Mill. Earlier this year, the Philadelphia native was released from jail after being arrested for violating parole. Since then, Meek Mill has appeared on a bevy of network television programs to speak about mass incarceration in America. In addition, Meek celebrated his release by ringing the Liberty Bell at a 76ers playoff game and performing at the 20th anniversary of Summer Jam. Most recently, Meek made headlines when he honored fallen rappers, Jimmy Wopo and XXXTentacion, during a performance of his new single, “Stay Woke”, at the 2018 BET Awards.
Tonight, Meek Mill made his return to releasing full length projects with the release of his newest project, Legends of the Summer. Released as a surprise for fans, the four track project features Swizz Beatz, Jeremih, Miguel and PnB Rock. Overall, the project does a great job of balancing the bangers and summer anthems we’re used to getting from Meek and the more thoughtful Meek Mill that we’ve seen emerge over the past six months. You can hear Meek Mill rap, “In a world where Black is wrong and white right, it’s like combat. We go to war for our freedom. Then, they say we are equal,” on “Stay Woke”. On other tracks liker “Dangerous”, you can hear Meek rap, “This is that Hermes money. This ain’t no Fashion Nova. You said your ex had you depressed and I’m just glad that’s over.” Overall, this project does a great job of balancing everything that Meek Mill brings to the table. Check out the full project above.
