NEIGHBORS – MAY 9
Director: Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek)
Stars: Zac Efron, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne and Dave Franco
Synopsis: A young couple go head to head with their neighboring college frat house for the title of king of the block after their newborn baby has arrived.
Runtime: 96 minutes
Review: This crude comedy is just as inappropriate as you would think. And you will love it.
‘Neighbors’ is a wildly hilarious film that is jam packed with enough raunchy and outlandish humor that will keep you laughing well after leaving the theater.
The movie follows a young couple Mac (Rogen) and Kelly (Byrne) who have just had their first daughter Stella that basically alienates them from their friends and their old lifestyle. When they learn that Delta Psi, a fraternity has moved in next door, they ask them to keep it down. When they don’t Mac and Kelly call the cops which starts an all out war with the fraternity.
Rogen and Byrne prove to be an excellent comedic pairing by playing off of each other which results in memorable one liners and strong slapstick scenes. Efron is also an excellent addition to the mix as well with a killer delivery. And if you aren’t particularly fond of his penis jokes, his body will be an easy distraction for that.
Prepare for some nudity in the film including a naked Dave Franco and a bizarrely funny breast milk mishap with Rose Byrne.
Is this the next ‘Animal House‘? No. But it is safe to say that ‘Neighbors’ is the funniest movie of 2014 thus far.
