The Dallas Mavericks have traded Jeremy Evans to the Indiana Pacers. The forward, along with cash considerations, is heading to Indiana as part of a salary dump. The move was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
Trading away Evans (for presumably nothing more than a second round pick) will clear up $1.2 million for the Mavs. That money became necessary in order to sign Dirk Nowitzki to his new deal.
The Pacers, meanwhile, are adding another athletic player to their frontcourt. Team president Larry Bird has routinely expressed his desire to play faster. Evans, although not very skilled, will help in that regard. His youth and athleticism will allow him to run out in transition to be a scorer at the rim.
Beyond that, Evans does not do much. In six seasons in the league, Evans has never finished a year playing more than 19 minutes per game. That is in part due to his lack of shooting ability or passing chops – skills now necessary for his position.
But for little to nothing given up, Jeremy Evans can be a decent addition to the Pacers who continue to solidify their frontcourt.
