The Cleveland Cavaliers got rid of one of their longest tenured players, Anderson Varejao, during the trade deadline. All in the efforts in getting better so that they can go from ‘No chance’ of beating the Warriors and Spurs, to a ‘slim chance’ of beating the Warriors and Spurs.
But I don’t think the Cavs traded Anderson Varejao just so that the aforementioned Warriors and Spurs can snatch Varejao for their own exploits.
The Golden State Warriors are contemplating a run at free agent-to-be Anderson Varejao, according to league sources.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Warriors are among several teams, along with Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Dallas, currently investigating the prospect of signing Varejao, who is scheduled to clear waivers Sunday after his trade from Cleveland to Portland and subsequent release by the Trail Blazers.
Now when it comes to Dallas I only think they’ve thrown their name in just in case that they don’t get David Lee who is also on the waiver wire.
The Thunder are probably the team that would use Varejao the most. Considering they’re pretty average in for big men, a veteran in Varejao couldn’t hurt. The Warriors and Spurs will dominate regardless of whether they have Anderson Varejao or not.
Update: 21/2/2016 – 1:20pm ET
Give it some time and someone always comes out on top. And la di da it’s the Golden State Warriors according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.
League sources told ESPN.com that Varejao is leaning strongly toward joining the Warriors after he clears waivers Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.
Now the Warriors will have to boot somebody out but it’s worth it considering they’re getting a decent veteran to go with Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli.
