We are at that stage in the offseason where some NBA teams look to fill up their roster with players that either want the chance to prove themselves or to keep their career going. Yes they’ll be bench players but you never know, there could be an injury somewhere and their name is called up. Be honest, did you know who Matthew Dellavedova was before the Finals? Exactly.
The Dallas Mavericks hope they have just signed their own Delly. Grabbing John Jenkins and Jarrid Famous off the free agency pool.
Jenkins was a first-round pick by Atlanta in 2012 and played three seasons with the Hawks, averaging 5.6 points and shooting 45 percent in 14 minutes per game. He played in 98 games with three starts.
The 6-foot-11 Famous started five games for Washington’s summer league team this year, averaging 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds. Undrafted out of South Florida in 2011, he spent last season with the Iowa Energy and the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League.
Now whether they’ll be on the squad for the regular season or get sent down to the D-League remains to be seen. But they’ve been given a chance and I’m sure they’ll take it with both hands.
