The Dallas Mavericks suffered at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder last night as they were eliminated from the 1st round of the NBA Playoffs in 5 games. The Mavericks just didn’t have enough healthy players to compete with the Thunder and Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant showed no remorse in a Game 5 win in Oklahoma. The Mavericks had to play game 5 without the help of their point-guard Deron Williams and their rookie Center Salah Mejri.
Deron Williams has been struggling with injury ever since he left the Utah Jazz, but this injury was suffered at the end of the regular season, and re-aggravated again in Game 2 of the series. According to Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News, the starting point-guard will undergo surgery to repair a hernia during the off-season.
Here’s a video of the aggravation that occurred in Game 4 (Via Ximo Pierto Final):
On that play it looks like he just hyper extended or over extended that arm when he was reaching for it out-of-bounds and that is what caused him to get hurt. Although Williams future with the Mavericks is guaranteed for now, how productive he can be for them will be in question. Williams has struggled to get back to the all-star point-guard he was in Utah during the start of his career, now he’s just got to the point where he wants to help a team win. Is Deron Williams in the Mavericks long-term plans?
