Both the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks exited in the NBA Playoffs in surprising fashion. The Mavericks exited in the first round and lost in 5 games to a more lethal Rockets team. The Clippers had a 3-1 lead against the same Rockets team, but lost their composure and lost the series. Now, DeAndre Jordan their biggest defensive asset, and one of the better centers in the league, is a free agent. The Clippers would not achieve half of what they did without DeAndre, so what do they do now? According to some sources, DeAndre wants out, because of his problems with Chris Paul. Although that has been denied, there has been sources that say Dallas wants him and he might be interested.
The Mavericks have a good core nucleus of Dirk & Monta Ellis, they just need a point guard who can facilitate the ball, and a Center who can defend the basket. They do have a center, and his name is Tyson Chandler, but his age and injuries raise questions to long time Mavericks fans. According to Tim McMahon of ESPN, both teams could consider a swap:
A sign-and-trade swap of the centers, which has been mentioned in Mavs front-office offseason brainstorming sessions, would make a lot of sense for all of the involved parties.
Dallas would insist that the Clippers also take reserve point guard Raymond Felton
This probably won’t happen, because Tyson Chandler is a free agent as well, and making 4 separate parties agree will be a struggle, but if DeAndre Jordan wants to be a Maverick, Mark Cuban will bring him there. My guess is that the Mavericks have a pretty good chance of landing the young Center.
