Matthew Dellavedova has been the Cavaliers’ surprise hero in the Finals thus far, locking down the MVP, getting an arena named after him, and taking names. That is, until he had to leave on a stretcher after game 3. In LeBron-like fashion, Delly cramped up big time, due to dehydration and exhaustion. How did he get so dehydrated? Coffee.
Before every game, Dellavedova likes to have a hot cup of coffee. No longer will he do so, Dellavedova told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“There will be no coffee tonight,” Dellavedova said after Cavs shootaround Thursday. “It’s not a good thing, probably, for your hydration.”
Dellavedova’s coffee kick is so ingrained in the Cavs’ team fabric that, on occasion, injured center Anderson Varejao will go fetch him a cup and bring it to him in the locker room before tipoff.
You’ve gotta love it. Cleveland’s newfound hero, the gritty defender from down under, has his own coffee guy on the team in the form of Anderson Varejao. Delly’s kicking the caffeine, and now the rest of Australia is following his lead(not actually related, but one can dream).
Prior to game 4, Delly forewent his usual cup of joe. It didn’t work out too well for him. In the first half he scored just 4 points on an abysmal 1-7 shooting. Perhaps he was missing that bounce in his step that the caffeine gives him. At halftime, however, Dellavedova’s trusty coffee runner was spotted bringing him the coffee that he was craving.

I guess he couldn’t go the whole game. What a coffee addict, huh? Lets hope for the Cavs’ sake that the caffeine helps Dellavedova’s performance, and that he doesn’t cramp up and need another IV.
