So Matt Reeves Batman film will is definitely happening. Yes, it’s had a bunch of setbacks, mainly in finding its lead star, but regardless, the film is definitely in the works. Reeves reportedly has an idea, scripted out, which involves a younger more detective version of the caped crusader. That automatically eliminates the current Batman in Ben Affleck and while the search for a new star is on its way, Reeves is calculating how to create a memorable film with a story that has been done 10 times over.
Now, thanks to THR, Reeves has given us a little bit more information about the project.
“You can’t have Batman without a villain,” Reeves tells THR. “There will be a rogues gallery.”
Reeves’ says the casting process will begin shortly, and while the Warner Bros./DC film has no official release date, he could see it landing in late spring or summer 2021.
So, finally, some actual news. First of all, the Batman film begins casting soon. Second of all, with no release date, we could see the film come in the next 2 years, which is absolutely amazing. If you’re unaware of the Rogues Gallery for Batman, it includes the likes of (but not exclusive to): The Joker, Riddler, Bane, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange & Hush.
Reeves has mentioned multiple times that he intends to make this a trilogy. Along with that, Reeves wants to make this a POV from Batman’s perspective.
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale,” says Reeves. “It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films.”
To top it all off, the newest Batman movie also has a release date. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the upcoming film will be released on June 25th 2021. It’s far off, but it’ll be here before we even realize it.
