
Matt Forte is calling it a career after 10 seasons, 9,796 rushing yards and another 4,672 receiving yards between the Chicago Bears and the New York Jets. Forte leaves the NFL ranked 32nd on the all-time rushing list and 43rd on the NFL’s all-time all-purpose yards list.
The 32-year-old second-round pick out of Tulane spent his first eight seasons in the NFL in a Bears’ uniform where he rushed for at least 1,000 yards five times. Since entering the league in 2008, he’s led the league in total yards from scrimmage with 14,468.

Forte owns the Bears’ rookie single-season yards from scrimmage record after amassing 1,715 yards in his rookie season. He also broke the receptions record with 63 and most rushing attempts record with 316 that season. Forte left the Bears second on their all-time rushing list behind Pro Football Hall of Fame member Walter Payton.
Forte spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets rushed for 1,194 yards and two touchdowns in 26 games with the team.
Forte provided a statement exclusively to Sports Spectrum announcing his decision to retire and gave an interview immediately after the announcement was made on Wednesday. He will go down as one of the most consistent and reliable backs in the NFL over the past decade.
