Sacramento Kings forward Matt Barnes is never one to shy away from speaking his mind. So when a former teammate was recently released, Barnes didn’t hold back speaking about the situation.
Lance Stephenson joined the New Orleans Pelicans in the offseason in an attempt to make one more good shot at playing the NBA. When he officially made their opening night roster, Lance became one of their better options on the team. He was in a bench role but he contributed heavily by playmaking, scoring and playing the second most minutes at point guard.
But Stephenson recently suffered a groin injury which would require surgery and sideline him for 6-10 weeks. The Pelicans roster is riddled with players currently not active and adding Lance to that long list didn’t appear to be a viable option for New Orleans. They waived Lance and signed young guard Archie Goodwin in his place.
The Pels are aiming to help Stephenson as he recovers from his injury and also expressed an interest in re-signing him when he’s healthy. But that’s not enough for Matt Barnes. He sounded off on his Instagram account about the Pels deciding to release his former Memphis Grizzlies teammate amid his current injury issues.
