Matt Barnes is nothing if not brutally honest. The veteran small forward has been known for speaking his mind, often getting himself in trouble because of it.
Barnes, who signed with the Sacramento Kings this summer, was a guest on J.J. Redick’s podcast on The Vertical. As expected, he was more than entertaining and honest.
Among the notable things he discussed (besides almost re-joining the Clippers this summer) was what he called the “biggest mistake” he’s made (h/t John Chick of The Score for the transcript):
“I think the biggest mistake I ever made was doing that stupid ‘Basketball Wives’ show,” Barnes told Redick. “Then to go through a public divorce with a basketball wife, and then what happened last summer, with my ex hooking up with my teammate.”
Unless you have been living under a rock, you know what Barnes is referring to at the end of that statement. Barnes’ estranged wife had a relationship with his ex-teammate Derek Fisher which became public after a dispute between the two NBA players.
Barnes is keeping it brutally honest by referring to the reality television show as his biggest mistake. Many NBA players look to get fame and fortune through that publicity but it rarely has a net positive result. Matt Barnes learned that the hard way but he’s not backing away from it either.
