Mary J. Blige is having an absolutely incredible week. Things kicked off Sunday when she was honored at the BET Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Then, just a few days later she signed a first-look TV deal with Lionsgate. THEN, just because that wasn’t enough for Blige, she went and got herself cast in Pink Skies Ahead from director Kelly Oxford. According to Variety, she is set to co-star alongside Jessica Barden, Michael McKean, Odeya Rush, and Evan Ross.
Pink Skies Ahead tells the story of a young woman, played by Barden, whose life falls apart at the seams. After dropping out of college, the young woman moves back in with her parents and is diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. In the film, Blige will portray a therapist who helps Barden’s character as she specializes in panic attacks. McKean will play Barden’s character’s father who tries to help by offering her a job at his property management company. The film will also feature Henry Winkler, Marcia Gay Harden, Rosa Salazar, Lewis Pullman, and Devon Bostic.
Pink Skies Ahead is based on Oxford’s story “No Real Danger,” from her book, When You Find Out The World Is Against You. Production is underway now but the film has yet to receive a release date.
