Martin’s Moment: Stephen Curry Keeps The NBA 50-Point Streak Going
“If I had any kind of daylight off the pick-and-roll, I was going to shoot it,” Curry said. “I had a good feel and a good rhythm.”
Stephen Curry theatrically blessed this week’s top moment by delivering yet another 50-point performance in the NBA, following the likes of his teammate Klay Thompson with the most ridiculous single-quarter performance in history two weeks ago and Kyrie Irving’s double-nickel performance last week.
But this performance reminded why Stephen Curry is one of the hottest tickets in the NBA right now.
Curry’s Warriors were down 24-4 to start the game against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. Golden State collectively cut it to a four-point game by the half, but just as the Warriors had to rally from behind, being down by as many as 22 points, Curry’s damage was felt the entire game.
Curry’s final shot chart:
51 points, three points shy of his 54-point career high at Madison Square Garden in 2013, shooting 16-for-26 from field and 10-for-16 from the three point line. Curry scored 26 of his 51 points in the third quarter and hit 9 of his 10 threes through three quarters.
WHAT IS IT WITH THESE SPLASH BROTHERS AND THIRD QUARTERS?!
The Warriors won the game 128-114, and as Stephen Curry proceeded to parade on fire in the third, bouncing around and hitting his nuclear launch code zone, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr could only react like so:
“Sometimes Steph plays his best when we’re down big, and he just senses that he has to put the Superman cape on,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “And he’s so good at it. He loves the freedom of being down and saying, ‘All right. I’m going to let it fly and bring us back.’ And that’s what he did.”
Also making this a great moment was the fact that Curry performed in front of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who was in attendance for the game in Golden State that night.
I’ve watched Stephen Curry do this same dance so many times since his Davidson days. His March Madness montage was one of the best I’ve ever witnessed. That being said, I definitely had a higher ceiling for him than most coming into the league. His feel for the game and just for scoring the basketball were too natural and potent. Here was one of his many bombs in college
