The Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival has reportedly unveiled the slate of premieres, discussions and events set to kick-off the nine-day celebration.
The 2025 Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival will open with a screening of Unraveling George, a Mike Tollin’s documentary following the life, career and legacy of George Raveling. Later that day, The Dutchman, a thriller starring André Holland, will be presented. Starring Holland, Aldis Hodge and Zazie Beetz, The Dutchman tells the story of “a successful Black man who finds himself in a psychological game of cat and mouse with a mysterious white woman.” The opening day festivities will conclude with “a presentation of clips” from Spike Lee’s latest film, Highest 2 Lowest. Starring Denzel Washington and Rakim “A$AP Rocky” Mayers, the logline for Highest 2 Lowest reads, “When a titan music mogul is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma.”
“This year, MVAAFF radiates with joy — spotlighting extraordinary Color of Conversation events, interactive fan engagements and a standout roster of must-see documentaries and shorts,” Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival Founders Floyd and Stephanie Rance told The Hollywood Reporter. “We are continually amazed by the positive economic impact the festival brings to the island as we look forward to celebrating another year of Black Excellence in film.”
Festival founders are expected to reveal additional screenings and events in the weeks leading up to the festival.
