Last night’s matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards was highly anticipated due to the matchup between the 2 great backcourts. It was the ‘Splash Brothers’, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, out in California going up against the duo from D.C. in John Wall and Bradley Beal.
The game went awry in the third quarter and fast. At halftime, the Warriors lead the Wizards 52-49 and it was shaping up to be a great finish. Then, the third quarter happened, the quarter that the Warriors dominate this season in the NBA. The Warriors outscored the Wizards 29-8, holding the Wizards for the first 11 minutes of the quarter without a field goal. Not a single field goal. After all, Golden State does have the number one defense and offense in the NBA so this wasn’t a shocking development. The Dubs offense was clicking but more importantly, the defense dominated and might have broke the will of the Wiz.
Following from Ben Standig of CSN Washington.
According to Golden State reserve center center Marreese Speights, the Warriors believed strong defense would actually fracture the Wizards.
“We just turned up a little,” Speights said of Golden State’s defense to reporters following the win. “We knew if we hit them, if we got a couple stops they would start arguing with each other and quit. We went out there with a good mindset in the second half and we did it.” …
“It’s a troubling trend that we’ve had for the last 20, 25 games,” Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. “We play one good half and just the exact opposite, awful, one half to the other. “
The Warriors are dominating and the Wizards stink. That’s it. There’s nothing deeper than that. It appears the Wizards head coach Randy Wittman knows the issues going on in Washington and it trying to change them but it’s not working. There’s an obvious disconnect and it’s not the right time for this to happen.
Washington hasn’t been doing well at all since the All-Star game. It appeared the horrible trend stopped after they went on a 5 game winning streak but now, they have lost 3 in a row. Washington has talent, there’s no secret there but they just aren’t clicking at this moment. Something needs to be changed and fast because the playoffs are coming fast.
