At least three people are reportedly dead after a boat crash off Miami Beach on Sunday morning.
Emergency workers are searching for more victims near Government Cut and South Pointe Park.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded to the crash of the 30-foot boat.
“They found a boat that was up against the jetties,” Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Todd Garofalo told WSVN. “They did do an initial search and they found three victims — two on top of the water, one underneath the boat and they had unfortunately passed away.””
The Marlins announced they will cancel today’s game in wake of the Fernandez passing.
“The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez. Our thoughts and prayer sare with his family at this very difficult time.”
Fernandez was the team’s first-round draft pick in 2011, was the National League rookie of the year in 2013. He had a promising career ahead of him and coupled with fellow All-Star, Home Run Derby champion outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, the Marlins had a dynamic 1-2 punch on the mound and at the plate.
Rest in Peace, Jose.
