Give Markieff Morris all of your power ranking motivational pieces!
At the halfway point of the season, a Bleacher Report article ranked the top 30 power forwards in the NBA. The Washington Wizards four-man received a text from his agent with the story saying he was not on it.
This was Morris’ reaction at the time, courtesy of Candace Buckner of the Washington Post:
“Ever since I’ve seen that it’s been kill,” Morris said. “They think I’m a [expletive] joke and I don’t play like that. So every game I look at that. It gives me more motivation.”
Fast forward to the playoffs, where Morris has been killing it for a Wizards team hoping to (and potentially now favored to) upset the Boston Celtics to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Well it appears that Keef is still mad.
Following via Chase Hughes of CSN Mid-Atlantic:
“Whoever wrote that is an a–hole,” he said. “[They] don’t know anything about basketball. You’ve never watched any basketball in your life if you don’t rank me in the top 30… I’ve been in the league for [six] years. All [six] years I have produced. To not be in the top 30 is disrespectful.”
Morris then clarified that he is not mad and he actually finds it all funny:
“At the time it gave me motivation. But now we are in it together. We’re just trying to get this victory,” he said. “I’m just excited about the team and the chance now to get the job done in Boston now.”
No confirmation yet on if this was Morris’ next statment:
and another thing: im not mad. please dont put in the newspaper that i got mad.

In all seriousness, whatever motivation Morris can find, he should use it. He has a legitimate gripe even if simple power rankings probably shouldn’t be enough to peeve him so much.
