Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris was detained today at Philadelphia International Airport after security found “suspected marijuana” in his bag, according to John Gonzalez of csnphilly.com. Gonzalez, citing law enforcement officials as his sources, detailed what happened:
A secondary search of his bag revealed what law enforcement officials called “suspected marijuana.” Terminal A at Philadelphia International is overseen by Tinicum Township Police in Delaware County, not by the Philadelphia Police Department. Philadelphia airport security notified Tinicum Township Police. Morris was then taken to the Tinicum Township Police precinct for questioning. He was later released on his own reconnaissance.
A Tinicum Township police spokesman said the investigation is on-going.
Markieff Morris, 26, had one roller coaster of a season. Starting off with the Phoenix Suns, Morris was in the middle of several issues during his short-lived season with the team. From fighting with his teammates on the bench to throwing his towel at head coach Jeff Hornacek, Morris harmed his reputation with many poor choices made with the Suns.
The Suns eventually traded Markieff Morris to the Wizards for DeJuan Blair, Kris Humphries, and a future first-round draft pick.
“I’m happy where I am now”, Morris recently stated. Clearly, he has found a home in Washington.
Regardless, the issues surrounding Markieff Morris still remain. Since joining the Wizards, videos of him going to battle with his own team are no longer surfacing. That’s a plus. However, with this recent report of him being detained emerging, one has to wonder what’s next for the infamous Markieff Morris.
Keep in mind, Markieff Morris and brother Marcus Morris are still dealing with their felony aggravated assault-case from last year. The next court date in their case is a status conference set for July 29th at 8:30 AM. After today’s incident, Markieff may possibly be looking forward to another court date in the future.
Markieff Morris was selected #13 overall in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. In 37 appearances with the Suns this season, Morris averaged 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and shot 40% from the field.
After joining the Wizards, Morris saw his averages increase in almost every category. In 27 games with Washington, Morris averaged 12.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and shot 47% from the field.
