The world is only four weeks into the new year and music is already flooding through our favorite streaming services. From Jazmine Sullivan’s Heaux Tales to the return of Rowdy Rebel, there is enough new music to fill up the entire year and Drake hasn’t even dropped Certified Lover Boy yet. With all of the new music that is coming out, it may be easy to overlook a project or too. One project that you need to check out is Vet & A Rook from Markee Steele.”
“Blessed to be in a unique position in my career because I’ve accomplished a lot independently, yet there’s still a large portion of my potential fanbase I haven’t managed to tap into yet. Every day I’m considered a new artist to a lot people that have just discovered me. I know exactly who I am as an artist and where I’m taking my ship but I’m still new and so much has yet to be written. A true Vet & A Rook, at the same time,” he set about his new project.
Markee Steele has delivered a new project to start the new year called Vet & A Rook. From the opening seconds of the project, the North Carolina native offers his deepest thoughts and feelings over soulful production. From fatherhood to police brutality, he opens up about all of the things that are affecting him as a young Black man moving through society.
One of the project’s most moving records is “Big Dreams III.” Throughout the record, he sets the tone for the project. Most notably, he discusses how his relationship with his father shapes his relationship with his children today.
Scared I wasn’t ready to be a dad, I was scared/Scared ’cause my biological dad wasn’t there/And I would search throughout the whole world/Just to show my baby girl that she’s her daddy’s whole world/But I’m still scared/See another man raise her in the future,” he raps.
Check out “Big Dreams III” and the entire project below. Be on the lookout for more visuals from Marke Steele later this week.
