Four years after its release, Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that he was upset by The Social Network.
Starring Jesse Eisenberg as the Facebook founder and CEO, the film tracked the start of the social media platform!
In his first public Q&A session at the Facebook headquarters, Zuckerberg said the movie’s creators had ‘made up a bunch of stuff that [he] found kind of hurtful!”
The film shows Zuckerberg creating the social network after a heart-breaking break-up — but Zuckerberg says he was dating his now-wife Priscilla Chan when he founded Facebook.
He said:
“I haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about that movie in a while. I kind of blocked that one out.
“I think the reality is that writing code and then building a product and building a company is not a glamorous enough thing to make a movie about, so you can imagine that a lot of this stuff they had to embellish or make up.
“They went out of their way in the movie to try to get some interesting details correct like the design of the office, but on the overarching plot… they just kind of made up a bunch of stuff that I found kind of hurtful.”
“There were pretty glaring things that were just made up about the movie that made it pretty hard to take seriously.”
Zuckerberg added that he met Eisenberg and maintained that the people responsible for film’s wardrobe got his daily grey T-shirt spot on.
