The Dallas Mavericks were thought to get a steal of a deal back in 2011 when they traded a protected first round pick and a trade exception worth $8.9 million for the reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom.
The Odom, Mark Cuban/Mavericks marriage however didn’t work out just like Lamar and Khole’s.
After being rumored in a trade involving former New Orleans Hornets’ guard and current Los Angeles Clipper Chris Paul, Odom forced his way off of the Lakers because he felt “disrespected” and said he didn’t want to play for a team that didn’t want him.
The Mavericks did want him so both teams agreed to a trade that had Odom going to Dallas. Odom would only last 50 games for the Mavs, eventually with both sides agreeing to part ways.
Now nearly four years later, team owner Mark Cuban said acquiring Odom was the “was by far the worst” personnel move he’s ever made, according to Dwain Price of the Star Telegram.
Odom would end up signing with the Clippers that same season, but was mostly a bench warmer.
Phil Jackson tried giving Odom one last chance this summer, as the Knicks gave him an oppurtunity to make the roster but was released in July.
