The Dallas Mavericks have made the playoffs 15 out of the last 16 seasons and have reached the second round 7 out of the last 16. Currently, 3 1/2 games back of a playoff spot, good for 10th in the West, their chances of making the playoffs are slim. Mark Cuban is not ecstatic about this fact and responded to questions about the Mavericks disappointing season in a typical Mark Cuban way. According to Dwain Price of the Star-Telegram, Cuban said this about what they can do about their lackluster season;
“It’s just is what it is, and there’s not a whole lot I can do. I guess I can go to Russia and ask them to hack the NBA and put out some fake news.”
Besides the fact that it’s completely bizarre that this is now a topical joke, it is strange that the Mavericks will miss the playoffs AND have a losing record. That has not happened since the first year Cuban bought the team back in 2000. Cuban remains hopeful, however, especially about the youth the Mavs currently have on their roster.
“We kind of ran out of gas, but that’s just the way it goes. We made some trades, made a lot of changes and positioned ourselves for the future.”
“Our young guys are getting in a lot more minutes, we’re finding out a whole lot more about them”
