Marianne Williamson has announced that she will run for President in the upcoming general election.
Williamson is a Houston native who rose to prominence as a New York Times bestselling author. Beyond her work as an author, she has also founded The Peace Alliance, an educational advocacy organization, and Project Angel, a nonprofit that delivers healthy meals to feed people impacted by serious illnesses.
Within the last ten years, Williamson has become more involved in politics. In 2014, she campaigned as an independent for a seat in the U.S. House Representatives, representing California’s 33rd congressional district. More recently, she ran as a Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential election. Four years later, she has decided to run for a second time.
“I wouldn’t be running for president if I didn’t believe I could contribute to harnessing the collective sensibility that I feel is our greatest hope at this time,” Williamson told the Medill News Service.
Williamson is one of the early entrants into the 2024 race. Former President Donald Trump has announced his intent to run for President yet again. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are expected to make formal announcements in the near future.
