Marcus Smart had a decent Rookie season. It wasn’t mind blowing but it really didn’t need to be, he is part of a Boston Celtics team where there are no stars. They’re a young team, with a young, outgoing coach in Brad Stevens. The only way is up for those guys in green. And some of them, including Stevens are lucky to be part of the first NBA Exhibition Game in the African Continent.
Marcus Smart was supposed to be part of that exhibition, but as we’ve seen, two of his fingers are currently deformed, which means that he won’t make the trip to Africa.
Injured Celtics guard Marcus Smart is expected to miss an Aug. 1 exhibition game in South Africa, according to a league source. Smart dislocated two fingers in his right hand on Thursday night.
Smart, guard Evan Turner, and coach Brad Stevens were to be among a contingent of NBA players and coaches taking part in the first NBA game played in Africa. But Smart will now stay in Boston as his fingers heal.
When a game has the word ‘exhibition’ in the sentence. You can never risk injury, especially when it comes to an extremity such as your fingers. It’s the right decision. And hopefully someone can fill in.
