The Memphis Grizzlies have had a good season do far and are cruising into the Playoffs. They’re cruising so much that they have decided to rest some players. The Grizzlies “Core Four” of Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Zach Randolph and Tony Allen have had some games off recently. And it is justified. They’ve had a long couple of weeks. But Marc Gasol isn’t that kind of guy. He likes to play whenever he can. For him. Missing a game is like missing your kids State Championship game where he drops the game winning shot. Which is why he says to the Memphis Commercial Appeal that he hates resting.
As for being given days off without an injury, center Marc Gasol admits that he struggles with the concept.
“No, I don’t like rest,” Gasol said. “It’s not my call. It’s never been my call. It will never be my call. I don’t like resting. I know I have a small window. Basketball, itself, gives you a small window because you have a certain amount of games. I take pride in playing every game. To me, it’s important to play every game. But I don’t run the show. There are other people that make those decisions and I’ll respect it. I respect Dave and I’ll have to deal with it.”
Now the resting thing I’m on the fence about. On one hand you have to rest them because too fatigue, and you’re nearer to the Playoffs. Why risk it? But then you’re not giving the fans the experience. And without fans, money won’t come. So it’s a fine line.
