The Los Angeles Lakers are all over the big man free agency market. They already were but even more so now that they passed on Jahlil Okafor and drafted guard D’Angelo Russell on Thursday. They look to pursue them right away once free agency officially starts come July 1st. Los Angeles has interest in pretty much every big hitting free agency this summer. They have been linked to the likes of stars such as LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan, Kevin Love, and even tried to swing a blockbuster trade for DeMarcus Cousins. And why shouldn’t they pursue them? Their starting front court at this point in time boasts Jordan Hill and Robert Sacre so they can use all the help they can get. LA also tends to lure in big men since they have such a rich history of them. However one seven footer can be ruled out as an option and that is Memphis Grizzlies Marc Gasol. Following from Mike Bresnahan of The LA Times: “
Marc Gasol has no interest in the Lakers because of the uneasy last few years his brother spent with them, according to numerous people familiar with the situation.”
Marc’s brother Pau Gasol did have a great career with the Lakers which included two championship rings and a great relationship with megastar Kobe Bryant for the most part. However, we can see where Marc is coming from due to the endless trade rumors that swirled around Pau during his last couple season in The City of Angels. Gasol, Marc that is, will have plenty of other options on the free agent market for him this summer and he will most certainly attract a max contract somewhere, whether it be in Memphis or somewhere else.
