Marc Gasol is one of the biggest names in free agency talk right now, and he has a right to be. The MVP candidate led the Memphis Grizzlies to the second round of the NBA Playoffs where they lost to the NBA Champion Golden State Warriors in 6 games. A valiant effort, but beating the Warriors was a far-fetched dream for a Grizzlies team that was injured, hurt, and lacked chemistry. Now the Memphis Grizzlies have bigger fish to fry and their biggest fish, Marc Gasol, may leave them.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the idea of Gasol leaving is not all that likely:
Gasol is expected to stay with the Grizzlies, but no final decision has been made, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
With Gasol & Jeff Green coming back, the Grizzlies will look to expand and develop what they have currently. The Grizzlies current team will not be able to make it to the NBA Finals in this current Western Conference and it is not like they are getting any younger. Can the Grizzlies attract a free agent this summer? Probably not. They will have to look to make trades and build on a team that just hasn’t been able to get over that hump. The Grizzlies and Clippers are in very similar situations. Both teams that may loose key players in the summer, continuously having disappointing Playoff runs, and now stuck wondering how they can make it over the hump.
