Tonight may be the end of Manny Pacquiao’s first-ballot hall of fame boxing career. After winning titles in eight divisions, Pacquiao has entered into his early 40s and embarked on a political career. However, if he were to return to boxing after an upcoming presidential campaign in the Philippines, Pacquiao has two potential opponents in mind. Of course, he would like to fight Errol Spence Jr. after he recovers from his retina injury. Also, Pacquiao would like to fight fellow welterweight titlist Terence Crawford.
“I don’t know if this is going to be my last [time in the ring], we are going to see fight by fight,” Pacquiao told ESPN on Wednesday.
“But if I have the possibility of making one more fight, then I would like to face the best — either Terence Crawford or Errol Spence.”
Before a fight with Spence or Crawford can be made, Pacquiao must do two things. Run a presidential campaign. Defeat Yordenis Ugas to win the WBA Welterweight Championship outright. His trainer, Freddie Roach, tends to avoid talking about Pacquiao’s political endeavors, but he is confident his fighter will knockout Ugas on Saturday night. Pacquiao is a bit more conscious and will allow his hands to do the talking on August 21.
“I’m sure he says that because he saw me training with a lot of discipline and passion because the fight with Spence was coming, but we will try to do our best in the ring,” Pacquiao explained.
“We hope that everyone will like the fight.”
Pacquiao is confident in his ability as he enters the ring in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night.
