Manchester United fans have been dealt an ill hand: they can no longer bring iPads or tablets into Old Trafford. This doesn’t limit fans from using their iPhones though.
Check out the email sent out to supporters:
“We want to make you aware of an update to our Club policy regarding home matches. Supporters cannot bring large electronic devices (bigger than 150mmx100mm) inside the stadium.
‘For example, ipads or other tablet devices and laptops are now prohibited. Also please be aware that large bags, large cameras and liquids (with the exception of a small bottle of water with the top removed) are included in our list of prohibited items. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter.”
However, the Yankees attempted the same thing and the outcome proved to be unsavory. In 2010, fans were not allowed to bring iPads and tablets as well and that decision was reversed two years later.
The reason behind this is since the digital age, fans can block viewers from watching the match and possible piracy of said match. While it all seems reasonable, it is very impractical since folks bring their devices with them everywhere.
