Though things haven’t panned out the way he wanted in his rookie year, Charlotte Hornets guard Malik Monk still has a very bright future ahead of him. His ability to warm up and score in bunches should eventually be exploited by Michael Jordan and company in Charlotte.
Aside from the on-court struggles though, Monk now also finds himself in an off-court conundrum. Monk was recently involved in an early-morning car crash near where he spent his childhood in Arkansas, according to TMZ. Monk was also cited for careless driving when authorities showed up:
Charlotte Hornets rookie Malik Monk — the 11th overall pick in the draft — was involved in a car accident early Sunday morning … and was cited by cops for careless driving.
According to police documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Monk was driving near the University of Arkansas around 5:46 AM when his red 2002 Lexus ran off the road and crashed into a gate.
University police responded and cited the 20-year-old for careless driving and no proof of insurance.
Despite colliding with a gate, it has yet to be disclosed whether Malik Monk suffered any injuries due to the incident. The car was totaled badly enough for it to be taken to the pound lot so hopefully Monk was able to escape without anything serious.
On the season, Monk has bounced back and forth from Charlotte’s G-League roster and the actual team. In 40 appearances for the Hornets so far this year, the Kentucky product has averaged just 5 points in 12.1 minutes per game.
The Hornets will take the court for the first time after the All-Star break on Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets.
