This was a Sunday for the ages. The now 5-1 Dallas Cowboys went into the loudest stadium on earth and smashed the hometeam Seahawks. Aaron Rodgers led his Packers to a breathtaking comeback, San Diego almost lost to the leagues worst team, and there were MAJOR week 6 inuries.
The most notable of the bunch of course was to New York Giants’ WR Victor Cruz. Cruz went up for a back shoulder pass, landed on one foot, but somehow managed to injure the other. Torn patellar ligament. For those of you not familiar with the knee’s anatomy – the patellar ligament is the one that keeps the kneecap in place. Surgery and therapy are a lot different with this than it would be for an ACL/MCL tear. Cruz, the Giants’ number one weapon, is out for the season…possibly more.
While not a tear like Cruz’s, Philly’s Darren Sproles had a knee injury of his own. A sprained MCL according to Monday morning’s MRI. He’s undoubtedly been Philadelphia’s MVP in their 5-1 start to the season. Sproles could be out as long as 3 weeks. Their BYE week will help in the recovery process.
New England suffered two major blows to their squad in their matchup with Buffalo. LB Jerod Mayo and RB Stevan Ridley both suffered season-ending injuries. Mayo’s knee injury was described as “really bad”, with no time-table for recovery. Stevan Ridley’s however? A confirmed ACL and MCL tear, thus rendering his season over. With a very stacked AFC East and almost the entire Patriots team a little nicked and bruised, the division looks like it could be Miami’s to lose. No, that wasn’t intended to rhyme.
