In a move that came out of nowhere and is the first big shocking move of this summer’s free agency, the Orlando Magic are looking to possibly make a big splash right off the bat.
They had a 12:01 meeting last night with Hawks forward Paul Millsap and it appears they offered him such a sweet deal that he won’t be taking anymore meetings. It will now be between the Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks as they both offered him max contracts.
Following from Turner Sports’ David Aldridge and ESPN’s Chris Broussard.

The curve ball tossed by the Magic actually presents an interesting scenario on multiple fronts. If Millsap does agree to a deal with Orlando, it would almost eliminate any need for the Magic to retain Tobias Harris. Millsap also presents a new dynamic to the Magic offense with his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting and can allow Nikola Vucevic to work in the paint.
The Hawks now need to be creative with some cap scenarios if they want to keep both Millsap and fellow free agent forward DeMarre Carroll.
