Goran Dragic seems to be in the news every year around the trade deadline. This season is no exception as the Miami Heat point guard has been a rumored trade asset for the franchise in need of a rebuild.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, at least one team has called the Heat about the point guard with a hefty offer only to be rejected:
Orlando, according to league sources, recently tried to engage Miami on a Goran Dragic deal in which the Magic were said to be offering center Nikola Vucevic and a future first-round pick.
?The Heat, of course, already have a well-compensated starting center in Hassan Whiteside and, sources say, had no interest in Orlando’s pitch. The South Beachers continue to leave the impression that they’re resistant to surrendering Dragic before the Feb. 23 trade deadline.
That’s a really strong offer from the Magic who have too many bigs and too few shot creators. The first round pick is also a necessary asset for Miami to gain considering how much they traded to get Dragic in the first place.
Vucevic would have been an awkward fit next to Whiteside but hardly a deal breaker. It’s interesting that the Heat rejected this offer. It can mean one of two things: they feel that they can get a lot more for Dragic or they’re not ready to move on from him and tank for a high draft pick.
It’s worth keeping an eye on this situation but Goran Dragic is staying with the Heat at least for the near future.
