NBA legend Magic Johnson has done well for himself financially both on and off the court. From owning a percentage of the Dodgers to becoming the President of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, Magic has gained a lot of experience throughout the years. He prides himself in making successful business deals; however, there is still one deal that he didn’t make which haunts him to this day.
Magic made an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and spoke about how leading up to the 1979 NBA Draft, Phil Knight sent him a stock offer from Nike. Knight had just started Nike at the time and Magic wasn’t very knowledgeable on stocks so he declined the offer. If you consider how most popular shoe companies were attempting to recruit Magic at the time, there isn’t much fault in the decision. It’s rather just unfortunate.
“Boy, did I make a mistake,” Johnson said. “I’m still kicking myself. Every time I’m in a Nike store, I get mad. I could’ve been making money off of everybody buying Nikes right now.”
Magic also opened up to Ellen about his son EJ coming out as homosexual.
