Magic Johnson is quite the entertaining follow on twitter. The Los Angeles Lakers legend is not exactly interesting in a good way though and he has become the butt of many jokes due to the blatantly obvious information he shares on twitter concerning different events. His twitter account is so strange that there is actually a parody account created in his honor to keep his spirit rolling even if he isn’t tweeting.
While Magic’s account could be a place to find enjoyment, there was an instance where he could have faced some interesting consequences. Recently, Johnson tweeted about a wishlist that the Lakers should have going into this summer’s free agency including players like Kevin Durant. There was just one issue with that, Johnson was listed in the Los Angeles Lakers media guide as a member of their front office. That could be considered tampering in every sense of the word.
Now it appears that Johnson is trying to avoid any and all potential issues concerning tampering by choosing to have his name removed from the Lakers front office listings.
Following from an official Los Angeles Lakers Press Release.
The Los Angeles Lakers have announced today that Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson has asked the team to eliminate his honorary title of Vice President, and to remove his name from the team staff directory in publications and other sources.
The change is being made in hopes of clarifying any confusion over Johnson’s involvement with or representation of the team.
“Earvin will always be a revered and beloved member of the Lakers family, but he does not have a position or role with the organization at this time,” said team spokesman John Black. “He is not an advisor or a consultant, and his opinions, comments and social media posts are solely his, and do not represent or reflect those of Lakers ownership or management. Hopefully this will eliminate any confusion over this issue in the future.”
