Los Angeles Lakers struggles are not a secret, to anyone. Talks about the Lakers needing to tank since the recent departure of players like Steve Nash, Julius Randle and Xavier Henry due to season-ending injury, a horrible 5-16 record and obvious frustrations from Kobe Bryant.
NBA and Lakers legend Magic Johnson recently made some comments about the Lakers and what he hopes they actually do.
Magic Johnson to ESPN.com during a promotional event Tuesday in New York City.
“I hope the Lakers lose every game,” Johnson said, according to Newsday. “Because if you’re going to lose, lose. I’m serious.”
“If you’re going to lose, you have to lose because you can’t be in the middle of the pack,” Johnson said. “You either have to be great or you have to be bad to get a good pick.”
Now you can see what Johnson is really trying to get at. The Lakers do have a protected draft pick, if they fall in the top 5 picks in the 2015 NBA draft. You can sense Magic’s idea here getting some steam.
Also, it shows that some Lakers legends may be fed up with the way that the Lakers are heading this season. They can’t deal with the losses in LA and the great may agree wit Johnson’s sentiments to tank the season and just chalk up 2014-15 as a loss and get back at it next year, in Kobe’s final year of his contract.
