A few weeks ago, the Orlando Magic decided it was time to part ways with their General Manager, Rob Henigan. Since, the Magic have been rumored to have an interest in multiple guys to fill the newly opened position. According to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, Orlando is also interested in Kevin McHale.
“McHale, who served as Minnesota Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations from 1995 to 2008 while also serving as the team’s head coach on two occasions, is known to be on the Timberwolves’ short list as well.”
The Magic have had one of the worst records since Dwight Howard was traded away. With Rob Hennigan as the GM, Orlando suffered their worst five-year stretch in the history of the organization. They had a total record of 132-278, which was the second worst record in that time span.
Kevin McHale isn’t the only candidate the Magic are looking at. They have stated they will consider the interim GM, Matt Lloyd. They have also shown interest in the Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager, David Griffin. Griffin has been the GM of the Cavaliers since 2010, and he has helped bring in guys like Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and LeBron James to Cleveland, thus bringing the team an NBA championship.
Kevin McHale’s resume besides being the VP of Basketball Operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves includes coaching the Timberwolves on two separate occasions and also coaching the Houston Rockets from 2011-2015. McHale has also been part of the TNT crew this season.
